Spread the Love!

If you’re stuck at home and wanting to find a creative way to bond with your partner, we’ve got you covered! Here are 29 stay at home date ideas for couples like you!

The best part about these at-home date ideas for couples? You can do most of these things even if you’re on a tight budget or have little rugrats at home! Not all of them (ahem, some things will have to wait until the kids go to bed).

STAY AT HOME DATE IDEAS FOR COUPLES

For this first one, all you need is two TVs in the house!

  1. MOVIE THEATER NIGHT AT HOME

Don’t just throw an old Netflix favorite on the TV and scroll through your phones. C’mon now, it’s date night!

Change up the routine and set the stage for a fun movie-theater night at home.

Set up the kids with snacks and a fun show in another room (as long as there is a sibling old enough to supervise, of course).

Pop some popcorn and use a snack caddy like this one to store your concessions during movie night. Light some candles, make a cozy area on the living room floor with lots of blankets and pillows, and pour some whiskey or wine.

Make sure you pick a movie that you can both enjoy. Action-adventure or romantic comedy are both good options!

Boom: movie theater vibe in the comfort of your own home. But even better, because ya know, the boozy beverages.

  1. COOK ETHNIC FOOD TOGETHER

I married into a big Mexican family, and there is nothing better than learning how to cook LEGIT Mexican food with my hubby!

My husband also loves Italian food and Thai food, so we often try our hand at some of their traditional dishes too.

Cooking together is fun no matter what. But if you intentionally plan on cooking a new dish together, the challenge becomes part of the date night fun!

Don’t worry about the mess, and don’t worry about the final product. Just crank up some music and enjoy making a meal together.

  1. DO HOME IMPROVEMENTS TOGETHER

Some of you are probably reading that and saying to yourself, ‘what kind of at-home date idea is this?’

But hear me out…

Quality time is quality time. Some people just want to be present with their partner and doing something productive together… and that’s okay!

I love doing yard work with my husband on the weekends. That quality time together is so special to me, and it’s better than a lot of other date night ideas that we could dream up.

Working on a project together is a great way to bond and enjoy each other’s company! That’s why this is one of my favorite stay at home date idea for couples.

  1. MAKE SMORES OVER A CAMPFIRE

Campfires just have a way of bringing people together.

For simple date night fun, build a safe little campfire in the yard and roast up some marshmallows for smores.

If it’s cold and rainy, grab a flameless smores kit like this one and have a living room camp-out instead.

  1. LEARN A COUNTRY LINE DANCE

My hubby isn’t much of a dancing fan, but there are a few simple and fun country line dances that he’ll do with me (as long as I wear my daisy dukes, of course)!

If you aren’t into line dancing, choose a genre that you love, look up some YouTube videos of simple dance lessons, and learn a dance that you guys can do together.

An alternative: crank up your favorite Spotify playlist and dance it out without instructions!

  1. SET UP A WINE-TASTING STATION

Even if you can’t make your way to the winery this weekend, you probably have a few bottles of vino at home that will suffice.

Set up a few wine glasses and a little tasting station for the adults in the house to enjoy some wine. Don’t forget the cheese board!

MAKE IT EXTRA SPECIAL: Get these wine glasses etched with a special location, like the place you and your spouse met!

If you need wine delivered to your home, consider joining The California Wine Club. They deliver a wide range of best-selling wines right to your door every month – perfect for your at-home wine tasting.

  1. PLAY A NOSTALGIC BOARD GAME

Find one of your old favorites on Amazon, even something simple, like Monopoly or Connect Four.

My husband and I love Loaded Questions. Even if you aren’t officially playing the board game – just asking each other the questions is a lot of fun!

  1. DO A PUZZLE TOGETHER

Even though my husband initially acts like puzzles are “boring”, if you leave one out on the table for a few days, you’ll find him sitting there putting it together.

It’s inevitable – he’s a problem solver!

It’s the same with crossword puzzles, Sudoku, or anything that requires some brain power.

Remember: it’s okay if your stay-at-home date ideas are casual or impromptu. So get it out your mind that you need extravagant plans to enjoy each other – just start ENJOYING each other!

  1. WATCH A SPORTS GAME

If you or your spouse are sports fans, this date idea is for you.

Prep for your sports game by making some food or sipping some beer. A friendly wager always makes things a little more interesting too.

  1. BETTER YET, PLAY SPORTS TOGETHER

My husband and I both love basketball. So ,we play a little 1:1 whenever we get a chance.

You don’t have to be athletic to get outside and play some sports together. Grab a baseball glove and toss the baseball around. Shoot some hoops or set up a miniature golf course in the yard.

  1. HAVE A KARAOKE COMPETITION

If you have a karaoke machine (or Tik Tok) you can do a sing-off or a duet together.

Karaoke machines are so affordable these days, and you can use them for date nights or big parties.

On karaoke night, you can guarantee I’ll be melting faces with my Bohemian Rhapsody cover!

  1. PLAY GUITAR HERO OR ROCK BAND

If singing isn’t your thing, Guitar Hero is a worthy opponent. Husbands tend to get super competitive with these fake instruments, and they can usually play all night if you’re down for it.

For the full game console and Guitar Hero setup, it’s a bit more expensive than a karaoke machine, so I would save this purchase for those big splurges!

  1. HAVE A CANDLELIT DINNER

Can’t go wrong with the traditional route, right?

Light some candles, pour some wine, make a tasty Italian dish, and enjoy a candlelit dinner for date night this weekend!

Fancy it up with custom wine glasses that are etched with any location of your choice (we have the location that we first met etched into our champagne glasses).

  1. STAR GAZING

Have you ever taken a blanket and pillow out into the yard to look at the starry sky?

It’s a peaceful way to bond for date night at home.

  1. GIVE EACH OTHER A MASSAGE

Massages are amazing.

Turn down the lights, put on some soft music, and light some candles.

You can either give massages by hand or use a massager like this one. We have the massager because it requires less muscle from me to get the job done.

  1. TAKE A BUBBLE BATH TOGETHER

STAY AT HOME DATE IDEAS FOR COUPLES WITH CREATIVITY

If you want to enjoy your partner and get in touch with your creative side, here are some indoor date-night ideas for you!

  1. PAINTING PARTY

If you have art supplies at home, then this one is probably already on your list. But even if you don’t, you can grab some paints and canvases for a few bucks and set up a painting station for you and your date!

To make it more interesting, have the other person decide the subject matter for your art.

  1. GIVE EACH OTHER TATTOOS

If you want to leave your mark on date night, grab some skin-safe temporary tattoo ink and draw tattoos on each other.

Bonus points if you’re watching your favorite tattoo show, like Ink Master or Tattoo Nightmares and planning real tattoos for the future!

  1. PRACTICE YOUR POTTERY SKILLS

Take a lesson from Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore: making your own pottery is a sexy date night idea!

Excuse the shameless Ghost reference!

And you can make your own pottery without a pottery wheel too (just head over to YouTube and watch some tutorials).

  1. MAKE A DIY CRAFT TOGETHER

You can use a wood burner to make a sign with your last name on it. Or use supplies that you have in your home to create a makeshift organizer for backyard toys or a welcome sign/wreath for your door.

Get creative and work together to craft something the family can enjoy forever.

STAY AT HOME DATE IDEAS THAT ENCOURAGE FUTURE PLANS

If you want to do something with your partner that allows you guys to dream about the future, these date ideas are for you.

Remember, anything you do can turn into a “date” if you make it one!

  1. CREATE A TRAVEL PINTEREST BOARD TOGETHER

Even if you can’t travel right now, you can plan and dream together! Set up a Pinterest board where you can save all of your travel plans and dreams in one place.

Don’t just save pins mindlessly.

Chat about what you’ll do when you get to your destination. Where you’ll eat, where you’ll stay, the main attractions you want to see.

Bring the trip to life, and then work on a plan to make it happen!

  1. TAKE PERSONALITY TESTS TOGETHER

If you don’t yet know each other’s personality scores on different quizzes, now is a good time to take them!

Personality tests often provide lots of insight into who your partner is and what they like.

Personality tests you can take:

Myers-Briggs Personality Test,

Hexaco Personality Inventory,

The Enneagram Personality Test.

  1. MAKE A BUCKET LIST TOGETHER

Grab some paper and pens and put together a big ol’ list of all the things you want to do before you die.

Get creative and add extreme things to your list too – dream big!

  1. PLAY ‘WOULD YOU RATHER’

It’s interesting to play games that draw out hidden truths about your partner.

What are they afraid of? What would they do in the face of danger? These questions will really open your eyes!

You can grab the Would You Rather book on Kindle and play this game right now.

OTHER STAY AT HOME DATE IDEAS FOR COUPLES

  1. PLAY VIDEO GAMES TOGETHER

If you or your main squeeze are gamers, a friendly video game war will make for an awesome date night. A friendly bet always adds to the excitement.

  1. PLAY STRIP POKER

Grab a deck of cards and choose a card game that you can add a little spice to.

You can start with something simple, like Slapjack or Crazy Eight, and then upgrade to something a little more adult-friendly, like Black Jack or Poker.

  1. HAVE A WATER GUN FIGHT

If the weather is warm, fill up the super soakers and battle it out!

You can also have a paint ball fight by filling water balloons with washable paint.

26. MAKE PLAYLISTS TOGETHER

Whether it’s a music playlist or binge-watching YouTube prank videos, make some playlists and then enjoy them together!

27. QUIZ EACH OTHER ON SONG TITLES

Go on Spotify and make a playlist of songs your partner should know (name of song, name of artist, name of album, etc).

Push play on the songs without letting them see the playlist and quiz them on the song name or singer. Each person has 5 seconds of intro music to guess what song it is!

When the other person guesses correctly, they get to quiz you.

My husband and I do this little game all the time. It’s fun to play the guessing game and it’s nostalgic going through old songs and reminiscing.

28. GO THROUGH PHOTOS OR MAKE PHOTO BOOKS

You can do this on your phone or with physical photo boxes/books.

But looking through old photos can often bring back lots of wonderful memories and great conversation!

29. DO THE WHISPER CHALLENGE

The Whisper Challenge is a hilarious game for date night.

One person puts on headphones and turns the music up loud so they can’t hear anything. The other person uses the app on their phone to ‘whisper’ various phrases to them. The person with headphones on has to read the lips of the whisperer and try to guess what they’re saying.

Super fun!

Hopefully these ideas are getting your creative juices flowing so that you can plan some kick-booty at-home date nights in the coming weekends.
